What is shame and we so ashamed of? Is it a responsibility to the outside, or in fact against their own morale?

Multidisciplinary artist Steve McQueen caused a stir with his controversial and striking debut Hunger (2008), where he won with a Caméra d'Or at Cannes. McQueen is known for its minimalism and attention to detail, which is also good in his latest movie to see. Along with Abi Morgan wrote Shame, which again yields a penetrating and dark vignette. The film will for what some explicitly, but McQueen really wanted to show what there is to see, "It's sex, it's what most of us have ever done. I've never had a gun in my hands. Strange that everyday things are censored and that we are not capable or less of all knowledge, but always for the general public will be shown. "With this approach, the same sublime Michael Fassbender, he manages to again broaden the film horizons.

Tunnel Vision
Brandon (Michael Fassbender) is an attractive thirties, with a well-paid job and an apartment in the middle of New York. Once away from the crowded it is, however, completely dependent on a passive need for sex. Prostitutes, call girls, one-night stands and masturbation as much as possible; whatever his sexual appetite can just satisfy, he engages. And why not, its chilly environment seems made to escape from relations and friends. If Brandon among men, he is alone. The sex has become routine, leaving him with a lack of self-reflection occurs almost outside himself. His sister Sissy (Carey Mulligan) - at first sight an eccentric dressed and extrovert type - withdraw chaotically in at Brandon. She disrupts his routine, which forces him to think about what he's doing. The two are seemingly polar opposites but share sadness and emptiness. Brandon is an introvert who is about to implode, Sissy extrovert who can explode at any moment.

New York, New York
Painfully slow and passionately sings Sissy in one shot Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York", which strongly contrasts with the way the city is visualized in Shame. Sleek, stylized, everywhere glass and concrete: it is an image that comes from the idealism of this city, the perfect place to disappear as an individual. Any sexual act that Brandon operates is so cold and unnoticed as the streets of Manhattan. In Shame as we see New York in a completely different context. The way in Fassbender is portrayed by McQueen and cinematographer Sean Bobbitt (Hunger, Hysteria) is effective in its intrusiveness. Brandon is the anonymity itself, always weggekadreerd from his own story, caught in a boundless void where he can not hide his shame. A shame that not only beautifully shot has been, but also excellent played by one of the most popular actors of our time. Michael Fassbender gives literally and figuratively expose what Brandon makes a compelling and endearing character. But Carey Mulligan is intriguing in its hitherto strongest and most honest film. Despite the much discussed in America 'frontal nudity "Shame is far from erotic. It gives the film an observing, rough and almost visionary character. The combination of Harry Escott's music and the tight static images meld together into a mesmerizing whole, strengthening Brandon's downward spiral constant.

Conclusion
Shame is not just a film about addiction; it deals with themes such as anonymity, our self-awareness and the societal norm. By less ambiguity than in Hunger wins Shame as observation of expressiveness, which is enhanced by the brilliant cast. It is a film that grabs you by the throat and on for hours or even days through your head will haunt.
